Why Do Teachers Blog?

There are many educational benefits to post blog entries for students.  They are in web format which means students with internet access can view them in the classroom, at home, or on their mobile devices. Many blogs are visually pleasing and contain photos, videos and links to outside sources.  Students that are visual learners will benefit from they style, it will help to engage them in the classroom discussions and activities.  Blogs keep a record of each posting so that the entries are easy to locate at a later time.  They are also an excellent form of communication not only with students, but parents.  Students can show their classroom information as well as parents can stay up-to-date with activities and announcements.

A teacher can utilize the flexibility of adding information to a blog.  For example, during the classroom lecture they can mention for more information or tips on how to master this assignment, refer to the classroom blog.” A list of tips, step by step guide or photos can be posted to provide supplemental assistance.   Teachers can encourage students to join the blog site and participate in a discussion forum.  This type of collaboration will encourage communication and serve as a question or answer style entry.  In return, all posted information is essential and over time shows progression in the classroom.
